olympic athletes we heart
August 19, 2008michael phelps, we love. his motivation and discipline despite and due to years of taunting during his early and teen years gives many of us hope—those of us who were always in the margins of athletic feats, so-called sissies.
but a hawaiian athlete, bryan clay, a decathlete, standing only 5′10 (my height) is also a source of inspiration together with the fastest man in the world—jamaican golden shoes. (Doesn’t Bryan look like Ben O?)
Who would not be inspired to lose their gut with the Olympics? Julius is also now being trained by my personal trainer, Matt, so he too is also very fitness-motivated. Yeay to the Olympic spirit, especially the very hot and very gay presence..

philippine fiesta + young entrepreneurs
August 18, 2008This past weekend, Tracy and I participated in the annual Philippine Fiesta at the Secaucus Expo Center. Tracy, a father of twin boys, works as a financial advisor for UBS so his aim was to, among others, share his financial planning experience with the community. Meanwhile, I hoped to reach out to Filipino undocumenteds so that i may help them to finally legalize their status here in the U.S.
(Tracy by the way was a college mate back in SUNY-Binghamton so it was definitely great to reconnect and partake in this entrepreneurial and outreach effort with him.) Our collaboration ran the gamut of finding means to improving the quality of services to our community (legal and financial) to galvanizing efforts to get out Filipino support for Obama and the dire need for overall governmental and economic reforms in the islands.

been a busy workweek with appeals and motions but it is ALL worth it.
just saw the olympics’ men’s swimming relay finals where the americans barely beat the french favorites. what great bodies these swimmers have. “swimmers build”, now I know what they’re talking about. Wow! Makes you appreciate how these competitions highlight the best of human capacity for achievement through speed, drive and determination. human swimmers mimicking the movement of sea creatures: dolphins and eels. humans making up for what we are not made or naturally supposed to do. there is certainly an art in that endeavor in and of itself.
